John Edward Barry, III

John Edward Barry, III, 76, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, at Autumn Way Assisted Living Home following a short illness.

He was born in White Sulphur Springs on January 27, 1950, a beautiful sunny day.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Edward Barry, Jr. and his mother, Clementina Guella Barry.

Following high school graduation in 1967, John made his career with CSX Transportation as a water supply mechanic. He retired in 2010 with thirty six years of service. After retirement, John loved farming and spending time on his beloved farm, Sullivan Hill on Savannah Lane. He was often found mowing grass, sitting under the bean tree, enjoying the peace and quiet, or visiting with his friends and neighbors. His farm friends always held a special place in his heart.

John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Brenda Shafer Barry; two children, Chad Douglas Barry (Chrissy) and Whitney Arden Barry; three granddaughters, Elli Barry, Eva Barry, and Sullivan Barry; one grandson, Shafer Barry; one brother, Charles Barry (Monica); one sister, Mary Critzer; three nephews, Chuck, Allen, and Nathan Barry; and one niece, Cara Finger.

The family would like to thank all of John’s friends who visited him and those who supported the family during this difficult time. We are grateful for the care and compassion provided to John by the staff at Autumn Way and the Hospice Care Team.

There will be a Requiem Mass held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, White Sulphur Springs. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901 or Autumn Way Assisted Living, 408 Nicholas Street, Rupert, WV 25984.
