Up In the Alleghanies
E.C. Wooddell reports killing a horned snake on Blue Lick Run, near Millpoint. The snake was found under a cliff; it was nearly four feet long, and the horn was plainly seen on its tail. In color, it was not unlike a house snake, except it had rings instead of spots.

Owned In U. S.
Eighty-one per cent of all the world’s automobiles and motor vehicles are owned in the United States, according to the National Automobile Chamber of Commerce, and there are 3,445,642 persons employed in the industry. Motor vehicle exports now constitute the third largest of the United States’ shipments abroad.

1951 – 75 Years Ago
Flood At Ronceverte
A flash flood that struck Ronceverte late Saturday afternoon caused damage estimated in some quarters at upwards of $200,000. In less than 15 minutes more than 40 business places were flooded with from two to five feet of water, and approximately 100 automobiles were trapped so swiftly that their occupants were barely able to flee to safety.
New Mayor
W.E. Sellards was elected mayor of Lewisburg and will take office July 1. Mr. Sellards is president of the Left Fork Fuel Company with offices at Quinwood but has lived at 502 E. Washington Street for several years.
Buys Firm
One of Lewisburg’s oldest businesses changed hands last week when Marvin Lightner and Clyde Goodwin purchased the real estate firm of Stuart and Watts. The firm will continue under the same name. Stuart and Watts were formed in 1902.

Group Will Open Bluegrass Festival
Eric Weissberg and Deliverance will open the Skyline Bluegrass Festival tomorrow. The Ronceverte event is on a mountain overlooking a river three and one-half miles southwest of the city. Tom T. Hall will appear at 7 p.m. Friday evening while John Hartford will begin his show at 6 p.m. The Vassar Clements Band with Doc & Merle Watson will be the final performance Saturday. Elizabeth Ray, holding her head in her hands, said she was “very, very shocked” to learn that Rep. Wayne Hays was hospitalized in a coma from an overdose of sleeping pills. Miss Ray, 33, is the central figure in an expanding sex scandal in Washington. She alleged Hays kept her on a government payroll solely for sexual purposes.
Use Of Vaccine
The Public Health Service has announced its first tentative recommendations for use of swine influenza vaccine in the upcoming mass immunization and identified the high-risk groups. The bivalent vaccine is intended to protect against both swine flu and the A-Victoria strain which was epidemic in most of the United States last winter and “may persist to some extent in 1976-1977.

Rapp Signs Letter Of Intent to Play
Volleyball, Basketball At A-B
Greenbrier East High School athlete Ashley Rapp has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball and basketball at Alderson-Broaddus College. Rapp was a three-year starter on East’s volleyball squad. She was also a three-year starter on the Lady Spartan basketball team. She will also receive an academic scholarship, based on her 3.93 grade point average.
Golf Tourney
Raises $19,000
The Greenbrier hosted the 13th annual Greenbrier East Golf Tournament. A total of $19,000 in proceeds will be applied to The Greenbrier/Greenbrier East Partnership mini-grant fund. The fund is used by classroom teachers to enhance class programs, thus benefiting the students. Finishing in first place were the teams of Don Runyon and Jim Hanrick.
Ikner Faces New
Felony Charge
Less than seven years after pleading guilty to embezzling from several of his clients, a former Lewisburg attorney has been charged with the felony of fraudulent schemes. Gordon T. “Skip” Ikner, whose age and place of residence were not provided in court documents, was indicted by a Greenbrier Grand Jury.
