Jane Ashley
Coleman

Jane Ashley Coleman, 66, of Charleston, SC, died September 29, 2026, at Lowcountry Community Hospice following a year-long, brave battle with Stage IV colon cancer.

She was born April 5, 1960, in Lewisburg, WV, to William and Nancy Coleman, who predeceased her.

Jane was a 1978 graduate of Greenbrier East High School and a 1982 graduate of West Virginia University, where she enjoyed the sisterhood of Chi Omega sorority.

Jane was employed for 35 years as a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance. Her career took her to Northern Virginia, Charleston, and Atlanta. She retired and returned to Charleston in 2022.

She is survived by her aunt, Mary Scarborough, and uncle, Jimmy Coleman, of Lewisburg. As an only child, Jane’s cousins, Sarah Salton of Charlotte, Molly McMillion of Lewisburg, and Chip Scarborough of Mill Valley, CA, were like siblings to her and were with her through the end of her life.

Special thanks to her dear friend, Ellie Huggins, and her family for being so good to Jane, caring for her, and including her in many family gatherings in Charleston.

A private memorial service will be held near her birthday in Lewisburg, WV, in April 2027.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane’s memory to Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, WV, or in Jane A. Coleman’s name to support Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Checks, made payable to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, should be mailed to:

Attn: Rachel Flannery
