SUMMERSVILLE- The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans volleyball team enjoyed a successful night Tuesday, Aug. 25, picking up a pair of varsity victories over Bridgeport and Nicholas County in Summersville.
East opened with a straight-set victory over Bridgeport, taking the two sets 25-20 and 25-19.
Summer Berry led the attack with six kills and added a block, while Emmy McHale finished with four kills. Paige Totten contributed three kills and two blocks, and Emma Dauwel added two kills and a block assist.
Sydney Norman helped direct the East offense with 12 assists in the Bridgeport victory, while Reagan Cline contributed across the floor with eight digs and two assists.
The victory over the Indians was a bittersweet feeling as they typically have Greenbrier East’s number.
“We did play well,” Spartan coach Dawn McClure said.
“I can’t remember when we’ve ever beat them, so I’ll take it.”
The Lady Spartans followed that performance with another two-set win, defeating Nicholas County 25-16 and 25-20. Berry again recorded six kills, while Totten had a strong showing with five kills and two blocks. Dauwel chipped in four kills. Norman dished out another 12 assists, giving her 24 across the two victories, while Cline added five assists.
Greenbrier East’s junior varsity squad also picked up a three-set victory over Nicholas County. The JV Lady Spartans battled Bridgeport in another three-set match but came up short.
The victories continued a strong opening stretch for Greenbrier East, which had also defeated PikeView in straight sets in their opener.
