FAIRLEA- At an age when many children are still deciding what to spend their allowance on or what video game to play, Jaxtyn Boothe had a bigger goal in mind: buying a Yanmar Diesel tractor.

Jaxtyn, now eight, purchased his very own tractor when he was seven years old, using much of his own saved money. The young tractor owner paid $400 for it — and the deal also included a brush hog.

The brush hog, however, was not needed, so it was sold for $300, making an already memorable purchase an even better bargain.

For Jaxtyn, the tractor is more than just a machine. It is something he can use, care for, and take pride in. When asked what he likes most about it, the answer was simple.

“It can pull heavy things,” Jaxtyn said.

That practical answer fits a young boy who clearly knows what he wants. The idea to buy the tractor was his own, born from a love of tractors and a willingness to save toward a goal.

His advice for other kids who hope to buy something special with their own money is equally straightforward: “Don’t spend it,” he laughed.

He also said his friends were “pretty jealous” when asked what they thought of him owning one at such an early age.

Jaxtyn brought his tractor to the State Fair of West Virginia this year, where it stayed for the entire week. Fairgoers stopped to look at his tractor, and he also had the opportunity to take part in the parades at the fairgrounds.

For a child who had worked patiently toward owning a tractor, seeing it displayed at one of West Virginia’s biggest annual events was a special moment.

And it may not be the last time fair visitors see Jaxtyn and his tractor as he said he plans to bring it back next year.

In a world that often moves too fast, Jaxtyn’s story is a reminder that determination, saving some cash, and a little patience can take a person–even an 8-year-old–a long way.
