SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. (WVDN) – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) celebrated the career of Shepherd University’s outgoing president, Dr. Mary Hendrix, at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Dr. Hendrix, who will retire in June, dedicated 10 years of her life to the service of West Virginia and Shepherd University, where she oversaw landmark transformation, including upgrades to technology, renovations to Shepherd’s campus and buildings, expanded housing, dining and athletics facilities, and new centers and institutes.

“Dr. Mary Hendrix’s leadership has left a lasting impact on Shepherd University and the state of West Virginia. I’ve had the privilege of working with Dr. Hendrix for many years, and I have been able to see firsthand her deep commitment to Shepherd’s mission and to the success of its students. As a Shepherdstown native and proud Shepherd graduate, Dr. Hendrix is the definition of a homegrown president, bringing a true personal dedication to her role. Over the past decade, she has guided transformative improvements across campus and her commitment to Shepherd’s mission and to the success of its students will be remembered for years to come. I thank Dr. Hendrix for her dedicated service to our state,” Senator Capito said.

“We are deeply honored that Senator Capito took the time from her demanding congressional schedule to offer kind remarks at my farewell reception,” President Mary J.C. Hendrix said. “Her steadfast support of Shepherd University means a great deal to our campus community, and we are grateful for her continued commitment to higher education and to the success of our students.”
