QUINWOOD, W.Va. (WVDN) – Owen Schmitt spent the afternoon yesterday (May 5) with students at Crichton Elementary School to read his book, “The Little Full Back that Could.”

“The Little Fullback that Could” is a children’s counting book released in December 2025 by former West Virginia University and NFL fullback Owen Schmitt. It is a semi-autobiographical story that traces his journey from a small-town dreamer to a professional football player, aimed at inspiring children through themes of hard work, grit, and determination.

Owen Schmitt is a former professional football player. The fullback played college football for West Virginia and in the NFL for the Seattle Seahawks and the Raiders.

Co-author of the book, Cassandra Shipe, is a former student of Crichton Elementary and current teacher at Smoot Elementary School in Greenbrier County.

Both individuals help inspire young learners to work hard to reach for their goals.
