NEW RICHMOND- It only took five innings on Monday night for the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans to make quick work of the Wyoming East Lady Warriors on the road.

When the final out was made by the Spartans’ Sydney Norman, East wrapped up a 14-2 victory.

Greenbrier East overmatched the Warriors from the get-go as Maddie Wellman was spectacular on the mound and the offense was consistent to the tune of 15 hits on the evening en route to the easy win.

The Spartans got two runs in the top of the first inning when Campbell Bundy hit a 2-run single that scored Lacy Patriacca and Kennah Collins, both who were on from singles of their own.

They added more in the second on a 2-RBI base hit from Collins that brought Bailee Cleghon and Natalee Sibold across home plate for a 5-0 East advantage. That lead grew to 7-0 after Patriacca scored and ditto for Collins on a base hit from Haylee Heaster.

East just continued the hit parade the rest of the game and Wellman cruised for her win in the circle. She went the whole five innings, scattered seven hits, walked just one, gave up zero earned runs, and struck out nine hitters.

Of the 15 hits, only one was an extra base hit, a double from Norah Ambler.

East improves to 12-8 and will host a very good Alleghany (VA) team on Tuesday, April 28.
