FAIRLEA- The Greenbrier East Spartans faced a good Ripley Vikings team at Spartan Yards on Friday evening, April 24 to get the weekend slate of baseball started.

However, it did not start off on the right foot as the Spartans suffered a 9-1 loss in a game where they committed four errors and only mustered up six hits.

Greenbrier East’s only run came in the second inning when they trailed 1-0. Bo Bundy had an RBI groundout that scored Clay Patton to knot the game at 1-all.

But that was all the Spartans could get as the Vikings scored three runs in the third, three in the fifth, and two more in the sixth.

Out of the six total hits on the night for East, Nelson Lynch had three of them and individually, he had a good day. He went 3-3 with a double and Patton was 2-3 with a double and a run scored. Sam Roshau (1-3) had the only other hit.

Layne Lambert took the loss on the mound. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowed eight hits, seven earned runs, and struck out five. Cooper Sabbag had a nice outing in relief and struck out four batters in his 1.2 innings of work.

Cooper Bentley drove in three runs for the Vikings and Parker Keller was 2-4 with two runs scored.

The loss drops the Spartans to 4-15 on the season.
