SHADY SPRING- The Greenbrier East Spartans track teams, both boys and girls, competed in the Joey Beckett Memorial Invitational on Thursday night, April 23 at Shady Spring High School, and even though they only competed in a select few events, the boys placed fourth overall (55) and the girls placed second (112).

For the limited events the Spartans participated in with their upcoming meet Saturday, they set 16 seasonal PRs in the boys’ events and 19 PRs in the girls’ events.

Those finishes are pretty impressive considering they semi took the night off.

The big highlight of the evening was the boys’ 4×100 team of Aiden Denning, Devin Penn, Nate Suttle, and Jy Green. Those four shattered a 49-year-old record and ran a time of 43.88 to break it. That same group also won the 4×200 (1:32.35) and Suttle, Green, Denning, and Kaden Stone placed second in the 4×400.

Suttle also placed first in 100-meters with a time of 11.16. In the 400m, Stone (55.92) finished sixth while Adam Patriacca placed 10th (58.35). Cash Ridpath came in sixth in the 1600-meters with a time of 5:13.11 while Grayson Adams (11:03.66) and Kalem Mahon (11:44.53) placed third and sixth, respectively in the 3200m.

Grayson VanBuren (39-11.00) and Patrick Bostic (37-04.00) were sixth and eighth in the shot put and Zayir Lee was third in the Discus with a throw of 126-11.
