BECKLEY- After a 14-3 home loss to Woodrow Wilson back on March 20, it looked like the Flying Eagles would have the Spartans number in 2026.
But those thoughts have been put back to bed after Greenbrier East went into Raleigh County on Tuesday, April 14 and avenged that defeat with a brilliant 8-0 shutout of their biggest rivals.
Kennah Collins pitched arguably her best game of the season and the offense struck for 10 hits in the game and put seven runs on the scoreboard early to ensure the victory.
Reagan Cline led off the night with a single and after Maddie Baker reached base on a Beckley error, Collins came up big with a 2-run single to help herself out early. Then, four batters later and with two outs, the Lady Spartans went on a hit parade. It started with a Paige Totten RBI base hit then Bailee Cleghon laced a 2-run double for a 5-0 Spartan lead.
But it didn’t stop there.
Norah Ambler got on with a single and that was followed by a Cline 2-RBI double that plated Cleghon and Ambler. After the top of the first inning, Greenbrier East led 7-0.
And that was more than enough for Collins. She got out of a mini jam in the bottom of the first, but that was pretty much the only time she was seriously threatened. Cline’s RBI single in third finished the scoring for East and the centerfielder made a great double play to end the contest when she caught a ball in center and threw out the Beckley baserunner at second.
Cline had three hits, scored a run, and drove in two more. Ambler had two hits and scored twice.
Greenbrier East is now 8-5 and will face Princeton at home this Thursday, April 16.
