CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVDN)- Competing with over 190 total schools on Friday and Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia in the Dogwood Track Classic, the Greenbrier East track teams held their own and shattered some West Virginia records in the process.
The girls’ Annie Whited finished third in the 100-meters and also placed herself third all-time among females with a time of 11.91. She then notched a second-place finish in the 200-meters and shattered the WV all-time record with a time of 24.13.
To cap her incredible day, her and her 4×400 relay teammates of Kiana McClung, Noelle McClintic, and Neena McClintic, broke the state record with a time of 3:56.47. That was 2.5 seconds better than the previous mark.
Not to be outdone, Neena McClintic had a great individual top 10 finish (10th) in the 1600-meter run. Her time was 4:54.95 and is now in ninth place all-time in the state.
For the boys, Nate Suttle, typically a top 3 finisher in the 100 and 200-meters at events, finished 37th in the 200m and posted an excellent time of 22.61 and goes to show the kind of speed and talented runners that participated.
The boys’ 4×100 team came in at number 20 with a 43.84 and re-broke their school record from last week (43.88) and the 4×400 squad had a nice 13th place finish.
Both teams are gearing up for the regional meet and then the states that will follow in a few weeks.
