LINDSIDE- It was one of those nights for the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans as they brought their bats across the county line and pounded out 15 hits in a 17-9 victory over the James Monroe Lady Mavericks on Tuesday, Cinco de Mayo.

Greenbrier East scored in every inning except for the fourth.

The Spartans (13-11) took an early lead when Kennah Collins’ sac fly scored Reagan Cline, who had tripled to lead off the game. So, after the top of the first frame, East held a 1-0 lead.

East’s defense made three consecutive errors in the bottom half and those miscues led to three Lady Mavs (6-13) runs and after a full inning, James Monroe was ahead 3-1.

In the third frame, with the Spartans trailing 4-2, they kicked it into another gear and found the rhythm they had been searching for. Adyson Donovan had come on to pinch run for Campbell Bundy and Donovan scored when senior Haylee Heaster laced a double to center field. Heaster would score on an error two batters later. Then, an RBI base knock from Natalee Sibold scored Kaylee Roberts and two batters after, Norah Ambler scored Sydney Norman on a single. The scoring was capped by Bundy–in her second at-bat in the inning–with a 2-run single that put the Lady Spartans up 8-4.

Pitcher Kennah Collins got through the next inning unscathed before the Mavericks got one run in the fourth, but Greenbrier East led 8-5 headed to the fifth.

East put up two runs in the fifth on a Collins RBI single and a Roberts RBI groundout. They then put a four-spot in the sixth and added three more in the top of the final inning just for good measure.

Collins had three hits and drove in five runs. Cline had two triples, scored four runs, and had two RBI.

East is back at it again this Thursday, May 7 at home vs. Pikeview.
