FAIRLEA- The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans defeated the Oak Hill Lady Red Devils for the second time in four days on Saturday, April 4 when they got off to a quick start en route to a 12-3 victory at Spartan Field.

Maddie Baker continued her hot start to the season in this one and led Greenbrier East at the plate and went 2-3 with a triple, 2 runs, and 2 RBI. The sophomore has had multiple hits now in three consecutive games.

The Lady Spartans started quickly in this one and scored 10 runs in the first inning and made life rough on Oak Hill starting pitcher Riley Dial.

With East up 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Lacy Patriacca singled home Kennah Collins to extend the lead to 3-0 and then she scored run number four on a groundout from Paige Totten. Later in the inning, Baker batted for the second time and ripped a 2-run triple and a couple batters later, Haylee Heaster’s RBI single capped the 10-run frame.

East’s final two runs on the night came on a hard-hit single from Reagan Cline that the Red Devil fielders committed multiple errors on and allowed a couple Spartans to cross home plate for a 12-0 lead.

The Red Devils (4-7) scored three meaningless runs the rest of the way before the game was run-ruled after 4-and-a-half innings.

Heaster had 2 RBI and Cline led the team with three runs scored. Baker, Collins, and Norah Ambler each scored two runs.

Maddie Wellman got the win after going 4.1 innings and allowing just four hits, three runs, and striking out seven.

The Lady Spartans (4-3) will now head to Myrtle Beach, SC for a three-game tournament as they have done the last several years.
