FAIRLEA- After a difficult finish to last week, the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans bounced back on Monday night and defeated the Wyoming East Lady Warriors 14-2 in just four innings of softball in Fairlea.

Greenbrier East got off to a big start in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as they cruised to their second victory of the season and snapped a short 3-game losing streak.

The Lady Spartans scored five runs in the first and they all came via Lady Warrior errors. East had just one hit in the inning, a Maddie Baker single, but took advantage of three Wyoming East miscues and three walks from Wyoming East pitcher Lexi Justice.

Following a couple good innings of work in the pitcher’s circle from Maddie Wellman, East added a couple more runs to their total in the third frame. Lacy Patriacca scored on another Warriors error and Sydney Norman stole home to cap the scoring.

After three full innings, Greenbrier East led 7-0.

Wyoming East put up two runs in the top of the fourth, but the Spartans stayed calm and answered them with seven of their own in the bottom half. Campbell Bundy ripped a single to third base that scored Kennah Collins and three batters later, Bailee Cleghon joined in with an RBI base hit of her own that brought Natalee Sibold across home plate. The frame broke wide open when Baker hit a bases-clearing double. Baker would score on a wild pitch soon after for the final run of the evening.

Speaking of Baker, she had a big game. The sophomore was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and drove in 3. Reagan Cline, Collins, Haylee Heaster, Patriacca, and Norman each scored two runs apiece.

The Lady Spartans (2-3) had just four hits in the game.

Wellman had a solid night pitching as she lasted the entire four innings, scattered four hits, no earned runs, and had five strikeouts.

East will hit the road on Tuesday, March 31 to battle longtime rival Oak Hill. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
