The Greenbrier East FFA Chapter has had an exciting and productive school year filled with hands-on learning, leadership development, and meaningful experiences in agriculture. From caring for livestock to earning prestigious awards, members have been actively engaged in building skills that will serve them both inside and outside the classroom.
The year began with students settling into new routines and responsibilities in their agricultural classes. The animal production program has been especially busy, with students caring for pigs, chickens, and goats. Members rotate daily responsibilities that include feeding, watering, cleaning pens, and monitoring animal health. These real-world experiences give students valuable insight into livestock management while teaching responsibility, teamwork, and attention to detail.
In early October, the chapter hosted its annual Homecoming tailgate, bringing members together to celebrate school spirit and fellowship. Students contributed food, played games, and enjoyed time together before the football game. Events like this help strengthen the sense of community that is central to FFA.
Throughout the year, students have participated in numerous educational opportunities beyond the classroom. Members attended the National FFA Convention, where they explored career pathways, attended leadership workshops, and connected with students from across the country who share a passion for agriculture. The experience provided inspiration and motivation as students returned home ready to apply what they learned.
Hands-on agricultural training has also remained a priority. Students participated in a Farm Safety Day at the Willow Bend Ag Innovation Center, where they learned essential safety practices such as ATV and tractor safety, general farm hazard awareness, and personal health protection. In addition, students took part in a veterinary-led livestock lab where they practiced skills such as administering vaccines, pregnancy checking, re-tagging animals, and maintaining proper records.
FFA members have also been active in developing leadership skills and preparing for future opportunities. Students have taken part in meetings, planning sessions, and chapter activities that emphasize responsibility, organization, and service. Many members are also preparing for upcoming events, competitions, and travel opportunities that will continue to expand their agricultural knowledge.
