LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) — The Greenbrier County Board of Education has completed its transition to a new central administrative complex, moving operations to a consolidated facility designed to improve efficiency and house multiple educational programs.
The district officially began operating out of its new headquarters at 430 Academic Drive in Lewisburg this month. The move follows a lease-purchase agreement for the former Appalachian Electronic Industries building, a site chosen for its central location and proximity to the county’s two largest schools.
The new facility serves as a multi-purpose hub for the school system. Beyond housing the central administrative staff, the building also hosts the county’s alternative school, the youth reporting center, and adult education programs.
Prior to this consolidation, the school board’s operations were fragmented. Administrative departments were split between a district-owned building on Chestnut Street and leased space at New River Community and Technical College. Local officials noted that the previous arrangement hindered department continuity and resulted in rental costs that did not contribute to property ownership.
As part of the relocation process, the district updated its communications system. Callers to the main board office line are currently being directed to an operator to ensure inquiries reach the correct departments during the transition.
With the move finalized, the board of education has taken steps to divest from its previous properties. The former administrative office on Chestnut Street, situated on approximately 0.81 acres, was recently prepared for public auction.
Future public meetings of the Greenbrier County Board of Education will now take place at the Academic Drive location.
