LEWISBURG, WV — On December 13, 2025, the annual Morse Reese Memorial Duals Wrestling Tournament brought together competitive high school wrestling programs from across West Virginia and Virginia at Greenbrier East High School.

The event, a highlight early in the winter wrestling season, featured a strong field of teams and offered the Cavaliers a key test against regional rivals as they looked to build momentum for conference and state pursuits.

Hosted at Greenbrier East High School, the duals tournament began at 10:00 a.m., guaranteeing each wrestler several opportunities to compete throughout the day. Teams were organized into pools, ensuring a balanced schedule with teams matched for multiple duals before final placement bouts.

The 2025 tournament’s confirmed lineup included established programs such as Greenbrier East High School, Greenbrier West High School, Lord Botetourt High School (VA), Alleghany High School (VA), Midland Trail High School, Woodrow Wilson High School, St. Albans High School, Elkins High School, Independence High School, and All Stars (combined JV).

These schools represented a mix of strong wrestling traditions, bringing both seasoned veterans and rising stars to the mats. The Cavaliers entered the Morse Reese Memorial Tournament eager to showcase the depth and toughness of their roster. With each dual offering valuable regional competition, the Cavaliers’ coaches emphasized technique, endurance, and strategic matchups throughout the day. The Cavaliers defeated the Allstars 57-21, lost to Independence 15-63, beat Midland Trail 48-30, lost to Alleghany 27-52, and beat Greenbrier East 51-29.

The Cavs went 3-2 for the day and finished in fifth place.

Driven by a blend of returning varsity competitors and promising underclassmen, the Cavaliers’ mindset was rooted in growth and preparation for the heart of the season. Wrestlers aimed to sharpen their skills, earn bonus points in matches, and build confidence heading toward league and state qualifiers later in the winter.

For the Cavaliers, the Morse Reese Memorial provided a valuable early-season benchmark. With plenty of matches under their belts and lessons learned from tough competition, the team looked ahead to upcoming tournaments and dual meets with renewed focus and determination.

They will compete this coming weekend at the Beckley Armory for the Fallen Hero’s Tournament beginning Friday morning at 10:00 AM. This is a full weekend of wrestling for both High School and Middle school on Friday and Saturday, then following with a youth tournament on Sunday.

Make sure to catch not only your Cavalier wrestling team but you will also see the Timberwolves of Western Greenbrier Middle School and the youth West End Wrestling all competing in one place.

To continue the tradition of Head Coach Jermey Tincher, Tincher’s Choice shared decision of Matthew Kesterson, Dominic Mandeville and Trey Franklin; these young men competed well and earned this week’s wrestlers of the week.

Congratulations and best of luck for the remainder of the season.
