GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – Heath Carola, a proud member of the Greenbrier East FFA Chapter, has been named the 2025 West Virginia FFA State Proficiency Award winner in Equine Science – Placement. This prestigious honor recognizes Heath’s dedication and outstanding achievements in the equine industry through his Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), where he works with his family’s business, Carola & Sons Carriage Service.
Carola & Sons Carriage Service, based in Lewisburg, offers horse-drawn carriage rides for weddings, festivals, and special events across the region. Heath plays a vital role in the operation, helping with everything from daily equine care and training to preparing horses and equipment for events. His commitment to animal welfare and professionalism in the field has set him apart as a rising leader in agricultural education.
Heath’s success in the Equine Science – Placement category was made possible with the guidance and support of his agricultural education teacher and FFA advisor, Emily Dunkle. Her mentorship helped him refine his recordkeeping, build technical knowledge, and prepare for the rigorous state application and interview process.
“Heath is the kind of student who puts in the work both in and out of the classroom,” said Dunkle. “This award is a reflection of his dedication, responsibility, and love for agriculture.”
In addition to his work with the family business, Heath has represented his chapter in various competitions and events. One highlight includes placing first in Junior Halter Showmanship at the 2022 State Fair of West Virginia, a testament to his hands-on skills and experience in show preparation and presentation.
As the West Virginia State Proficiency Award winner, Heath will move on to compete at the national level during the National FFA Convention & Expo later this year, where he’ll represent not only his chapter, but the entire state.
The Greenbrier East FFA Chapter congratulates Heath on this tremendous achievement and looks forward to seeing all he accomplishes in the future.
