A Greenbrier County man has been charged in connection with an alleged breaking and entering that occurred on Monday, Jan. 18.
David Lee Bennett, 30, of Frankford, who was already incarcerated at Southern Regional Jail for unrelated matters, is now being held on additional charges of breaking and entering and petit larceny.
On Thursday, Jan. 18, law enforcement was dispatched to Satch’s Automotive, located at 21145 Seneca Trail North in Frankford in response to an alleged break-in. When officers arrived, the owner advised that a window in the building had been broken and fresh footprints had been found in the snow outside. The broken window was reportedly found to be unlocked.
According to the criminal complaint, several items had been moved around inside the shop. The owner also stated that two rolls of nickels had been taken, as well as a Snap-On “jump box” valued at approximately $400.
On Friday, Jan. 22, while in police custody on other charges, Bennett allegedly admitted to having been at Satch’s Automotive on the night of the break-in but did not admit to the break-in, itself.
According to the criminal complaint, Bennett allegedly informed the investigating officer that he had the property owner’s permission to be there, as well as his permission to take a tire from the pile behind the shop. Bennett allegedly further advised the officer that he had thrown a tire on top of the pile, inadvertently breaking the window. However, the report also states that during a conversation earlier in the day between the investigating officer and Bennett’s wife, she allegedly admitted that she had been there with Bennett to steal a tire for use on their vehicle.
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, officers once again spoke with the owner of Satch’s Automotive. According to the criminal complaint, the owner advised officers that Bennett did not have his permission to be on his property or to remove anything from it.
Currently, Bennett is being held on six-separate charges originating in Greenbrier County, as well as an additional charge from Raleigh County. Bennett is not eligible for bail at this time.
