LEWISBURG (WVDN) – At the Tuesday, Oct. 11, Greenbrier County Commission meeting, the regular business of bills and estate closures was conducted and followed by a discussion between the commissioners and fiduciary commissioner Al Emch about a particular estate troubled by inactive administration.
The estate of Roy McCutcheon was explained, and the county commission agreed that a new administrator should be appointed so that the estate can be properly administrated, the fees paid and the family living out of state represented in a timelier manner.
The next order of business was considering additional time on FEMA repairs to the trail abutment/wing wall of the Meadow River Trail. The issue still needs representation by the engineer so it has been tabled until he can be in attendance.
A placard of notice of closure was decided necessary for the Meadow River Trail because a drowning last week made it quite obvious that use is occurring in spite of the closed nature of the trail while it is being repaired.
Also, completion documents have been submitted by Court Street Construction and the commission gladly accepted them on eight different sites within the Meadow River Trail system. Lynch Construction and E.L. Robinson are starting Phase 2.
In other business, Greenbrier County citizen Ron McGruder has agreed to serve on the county planning commission and will leave his position on the Arts and Rec committee to do so.
In courthouse construction news, a grant for $30,994 has been awarded to the commission to extend the court security and proxies, with alarms in the new addition to the courthouse. Another grant for $100,000 has been applied for to complete Phase 2 of the sprinkler system as well.
Approval of the Family Court renewal lease was made, accepting a CPI rate of 8.9% for the upcoming year. After this lease is up, the Family Court will be the first “off-site” court office to occupy the new courthouse addition.
Finally, it was announced that early voting in the 2022 election will be Oct. 26-Nov. 5. Registration deadline for voters was Oct. 18.
