Glen Jean, W.Va. (WVDN) — The public is invited to experience the rich musical traditions of Appalachia at New River Gorge National Park and Preserve on Tuesday, June 30, at the Cliffside Amphitheater at Grandview. The free event will feature live performances by local musicians, living history presentations, and interpretive talks by park rangers, offering a unique opportunity to connect with the cultural heritage of the region.
The event will take place from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. In honor of the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding, this year’s Sounds of Appalachia will highlight the significance of the New River Gorge area and its contributions to the history of America.
The evening will include a ranger led introduction exploring the roots and significance of Appalachian music and culture in the New River Gorge area, followed by living history presentations and live performances from local musicians including Doris Fields, Thomas Jude, Woodbine, and Mary Dailey as Minnie Reed.
This event is part of the park’s ongoing efforts to celebrate and preserve the diverse cultural traditions that have shaped the Appalachian region. Sounds of Appalachia is presented in partnership with Theatre West Virginia and is proudly sponsored by Friends of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The event is made possible by the West Virginia 250 Events & Educational Initiative Grants Program.
