COVINGTON, VA (VR) – On May 18, 2026, the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Alleghany County Regional Emergency Response Team and the Covington Police Department, arrested Robert Cobb, 63, of Neola West Virginia but was also known to frequent a residence located in Alleghany County on four counts of § 18.2-374.3 Code of Virginia, Use of Communication Systems to Facilitate Certain Offenses Involving Minors.

Cobb was also served with an outstanding capias for Failure to Appear. Cobb also has outstanding warrants on file for similar offenses in Greenbrier County, WV.

When officers approached Cobb, he attempted to flee the scene on a 1986 Honda Goldwing motorcycle but was quickly stopped and detained by members of the ERT.

During the investigation Cobb conversed with what he thought was a minor female and agreed to meet the minor in Covington, VA.
The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to aggressively investigating crimes involving the exploitation of children and holding offenders accountable. Individuals who target or attempt to exploit minors will be pursued and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Sheriff Moore stated “this is just another example of why parents need to be monitoring every move that their children make on social media. We are glad that we were able to arrest this predator”.

The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the assisting agencies for their professionalism, cooperation, and support during this operation.
