STOLLINGS, W.Va. (WVDN) – Governor Patrick Morrisey joined Hope Gas leadership, local educators, and students today at the Ralph R. Willis Career and Technical Center to announce a new energy workforce training cohort created through a partnership with the West Virginia Department of Education and the Logan County Board of Education.

“Creating more opportunities for students to develop practical skills and connect directly with employers is critical to West Virginia’s future,” said Governor Morrisey. “We want young people to know they can build successful careers right here at home in industries that are helping power our state and nation.”

The initiative builds on the success of Hope Gas workforce development efforts in Clarksburg and expands similar opportunities to southern West Virginia through the partnership with the Logan County Board of Education. The program will help prepare more young people for careers tied to the state’s growing economy through hands-on training and career development opportunities connected to West Virginia’s energy sector and workforce needs.

West Virginia’s economic development has accelerated at a historic rate, with more than $12.8 billion in private sector investment announcements tied to more than 12,000 projected jobs since October.

“When businesses, educators, and communities work together to prepare the next generation of workers, it creates opportunity that benefits the entire state,” said Governor Morrisey. “West Virginia has the workforce and resources to lead America’s energy future.”
