Regional Champions: Spartan Girls Track Dominant Again, Takes Crown

ELKVIEW- Stop if you have heard this before.

The Greenbrier East girls track team won another meet.

This time, for the Spartan ladies, it was the regional championship that took place on Thursday, May 14 at Herbert Hoover High School in Elkview.

East finished with 185 points to claim the crown and defeated the host Herbert Hoover who finished second with 149.

As she normally does, Annie Whited led the way again for the Spartans. She won the 100-meters, the 200-meters, and the 400-meters. She was also part of the 4×100 winning relay team. 

Kiana McClung had a big day as well for the Spartans. She placed second–behind Whited– in the 100m and 200m and her 4×100 relay squad finished first as did her 4×200 team.

Other top finishers on the day were Neena McClintic who was second in both the 800m and 1600m, Emma Erskine who won the 100m hurdles and came in third in the 300m hurdles, and Avery Thompson who was first in the 300m hurdles and second in the 100 hurdles. Bryleigh Goodwin set a personal record in the discus as well and placed third in the region with a throw of 93-08.50.

All in all, a big day for the Lady Spartans who will now set their sights on competing for a state championship.

400m: 1. Whited- 57.59 (only time under 1:00), 3. Noelle McClintic- 1:02.01, 4. Caroline Perilli Hancock- 1:03.93

800m: 2. Neena McClintic- 2:14.72, 4. Jillian Styles- 2:32.03, 7. Kate Adkins- 2:36.27

1600m: 2. Ne. McClintic- 5:07.61, 5. Maddie Lilly- 5:53.91

100m Hurdles: 1. Emma Erskine- 15.65, 2. Avery Thompson- 16.46, 4. Mykah Judy- 16.74

300m Hurdles: 1. Thompson- 48.29, 3. Erskine- 49.24, Mia Rowan- 51.59

4×100 Relay: 1. GE (Thompson, No. McClintic, Waller, McClung)- 50.66

4×200 Relay: 1. GE (Erskine, No. McClintic, Thompson, McClung)- 1:47.04
