ASHFORD, W.Va. (WVDN) — On Thursday, May 7, 2026, troopers from the Madison and Whitesville Detachments responded to the Ashford area of Boone County following a 911 report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, troopers were advised that two suspects had been actively exchanging gunfire before both fled the scene.

A short time later, suspect Landyn Jaso, 20, of Ashford, WV,  was located claiming he had been shot while wearing body armor. Troopers observed no visible injuries, and Jaso refused medical treatment at the scene.

During the investigation, Trooper Veres recovered body armor and an assault-style rifle believed to be connected to the incident. Troopers also located a handgun in the area where suspect Joshua Lively, 39, of Ashford, WV, was last seen; however, Lively was not located.

Landyn Jaso has been charged with Wanton Endangerment and Committing a Violent Crime While Wearing Body Armor. He was transported to Southwestern Regional Jail pending arraignment.

Troopers are seeking a warrant charging Joshua Lively with Wanton Endangerment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
