BUFFALO- The Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers traveled to Buffalo on Monday night, April 15 for what they hoped would be a revenge tour against the Buffalo Lady Bison whom they lost to a couple weeks ago at home.

However, the return trip was much of the same as the Cavaliers were outscored 4-0 in the fifth and sixth innings and suffered an 8-3 loss in the end.

The Cavs were unable to capitalize on five Bison errors.

Buffalo (7-9) jumped ahead 1-0 in the first inning on a fielder’s choice and then in third frame they scored again on an RBI single from Trinity Winter. The Lady Bison led 2-0 at that point.

Greenbrier West (11-5) answered in a big way in the top of the fourth, however. Three straight singles from Brilee Redden, Julia Herndon, and Maddie Fields opened the frame on high note as Herndon and Fields’ hits knocked in runs. After the top half of the fourth, West led 3-2.

But it would be short lived. Buffalo answered with two runs in the bottom half on two fielder’s choice plays again, much like in the opening inning. Then in the fifth, they scored on a pitch that went to the backstop and if that was not enough, the Bison put up three more runs in the sixth to close the game down. Breigh Martin highlighted that one with an RBI base hit for Buffalo.

Despite the eight runs, Buffalo did not hit the ball all over the park against Redden. She scattered just six hits in six innings and had eight strikeouts. She only gave up three earned runs but had to take the loss.

Redden, Herndon, and Fields each went 1-3 with a run scored.

The Bison’s pitcher, Kimberly Dillman, had a very effective outing. She pitched a complete game, allowed five hits and struck out 12 Cavaliers.

Winter led the Bison offense with a 2-3 outing. She scored a run and drove in another.
