CHARMCO- It did not take long for the Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers to ice game one–almost literally–against the Pocahontas County Lady Warriors in the first game of a double header on Saturday, April 7 at Western Greenbrier Field. The Cavs got going early and cruised to an easy 14-1 victory as fans in the stands and players on the field were wrapped in winter clothing.
Greenbrier West pitcher Maddie Fields got through the top of the first unscathed and that was literally all she needed to do.
The Cavs came to the plate in the bottom half and exploded for 12 runs. There were dropped third strikes, errors, hit by pitches, and at one point, four straight hits including a double each from Brooke Patterson and Lacey Walker. Several batters later, Fields ripped a 2-run triple to left and then Patterson knocked her second 2-bagger of the inning that scored Fields.
West added their final two runs in the third inning when Brooklyn Adkins led off with a double and Brilee Redden followed with an official inside-the-park-home run that put West up 14-1.
The Cavaliers totaled 11 hits in the game.
Patterson, Walker, and Ava Price all had two hits apiece. Fields went 1-2, scored two runs, and drove in two as well. Redden and Patterson also had 2 RBIs apiece.
Fields got the win on the mound, a place where she does not frequent too often. She went five innings, threw a no-hitter, and struck out 2.

Game two lasted just two-and-half innings and was basically a replica of the first.
West jumped on the Warriors in the first again, this time for 11 runs as the Warriors were simply overmatched from the first pitch of each game.
Preslee Treadway got back to her old ways and went 2-2 at the plate with a double, a run scored, and 4 RBIs. West only had five hits but took advantage of eight Pocahontas County errors.
Kyndall Taylor got the win in the pitcher’s circle. Last week’s WVDN Diamond player of the week pitched three innings, allowed just 1 hit, and had 5 strikeouts.
West will jump up to Class AAA on Monday, April 8 and travel to Beckley to play the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles and their ace pitcher, Aubrey Smallwood.
