Irene Ruth Sampson Aynes
Mrs. Irene Ruth Sampson Aynes, age 96, formerly of Covington, VA, died Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Lewisburg Healthcare Center, Ronceverte, WV. She was the wife of the late Earin Clifford Aynes.
Mrs. Aynes was born February 15, 1928, in Clifton Forge, the daughter of the late Joseph Franklin Sampson and Elvira Wilhelm Sampson. In her youth, she attended Covington High School and later worked at the former Industrial Rayon. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served her church mission in California from 1951 until 1953. She was known for her good pies – pecan, pumpkin, and coconut, as well as her zucchini bread. Irene also made many pieces of lovely crochet work. She truly loved spending time with her family and friends, especially attending family gatherings.
Mrs. Aynes is survived by two sisters, Juanita S. Musser of Covington and Shirley S. Burdette and husband, Richard, of White Sulphur Springs, WV; three brothers, Basil L. Sampson, Darrell Sampson, and Gene Sampson, all of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Aynes was preceded in death by three sisters, Phyllis S. Lawrence-Booth, Ruby S. Leffel, and Violet S. Hayward; and a brother, Wayne Sampson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Branch President Ray Lockhart officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from noon until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
