WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – Gear up cycling enthusiasts, because the Kate’s Mountain Challenge is back for another year! This gravel cycling race, held in the charming town of White Sulphur Springs, will take place on Saturday, May 18.
Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just starting out, the Kate’s Mountain Challenge offers something for everyone with four different race distances to choose from: 23 miles, 30 miles, 50 miles and 70 miles.
All activities will begin and end at the Schoolhouse Hotel located in the heart of White Sulphur Springs. The course itself promises a scenic and challenging ride with the undisputed highlight being the five-mile climb to the top of Kate’s Mountain. This climb boasts an elevation gain of approximately 1,500 feet, sure to test the legs of even the most experienced riders.
But the climb isn’t all there is to the Kate’s Mountain Challenge. Once you conquer the mountain, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views from the overlook, a fully-stocked aid station to refuel and plenty of encouragement from the event’s enthusiastic volunteers.
The 50-mile and 70-mile challenges add an extra layer of difficulty by incorporating the Broad Run section which ascends the mountain range separating Virginia and West Virginia.
