FAIRLEA, WV- The soccer field was the place to be this past weekend as the Ferris wheel and other rides from the State Fair graced the background and, on the field, the Spartan men’s team picked up a 3-1 win over Buckhannon-Upshur (BU) on Friday and then tied with Point Pleasant on Saturday afternoon, 2-2.
John Withrow kicked East’s first goal of the season to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead over BU and that score remained until halftime. The Bucs tied the game at 1-all, but soon after that happened, Ian Gadd put East up 2-1 with a goal. Noah Edwards iced the game for the Spartans when he scored the final goal of the day for the East victory.
Point Pleasant provided East with a tough opponent. With East down 2-1 with about two minutes left in the contest, they had a throw in from the side which Nixon Brown eventually secured and scored the game-tying goal off a Carter Tolliver assist.
Edwards had scored the first goal for East on an assist from Gadd.
The Spartans stay home this Tuesday, Aug. 22 and will face the Oak Hill Red Devils.
