LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – Members of the Lewisburg Rotary Club provided dozens of pairs of children’s socks, boy’s and girl’s underwear, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and other items totaling more than $250 to the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia as part of its August service project. Rotarians gathered the items for delivery to CHS after the club’s meeting on Aug. 14.
CHS’s Jennifer Lilly, Permanency Supervisory, met with the club in July to update club members on the organization’s operations and outline some of the most urgent needs, which Rotarians worked to fill with their donations.
Brittany Masters, Executive Director of Communities in Schools of Greenbrier County (CISGC), was the guest speaker at the meeting. CISGC is a local affiliate of the nation’s leading drop-out prevention program, Communities in Schools. CISGC, which was established in January 2003, serves students in all 13 schools in Greenbrier County and participates in six after-school programs. During the 2022-23 school year, 100% of students participating in CISGC graduated on time, improved their attendance record, and improved their social/emotional skills, Masters said. And 88% improved their behavior and academics. CISGC is actively recruiting caring adults to mentor and tutor students for the 2023-24 school year. The organization may be contacted at info@cisgc.org.
