Allison “Al” Whitaker Jr., of Beckley, WV, passed away quietly at Bower Hospice House in Beckley, on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, after a long illness.
Born August 8, 1944, he was the son of Susan Smith Taylor and Allison Whitaker.
Al was a longtime resident of Greenbrier County, WV. A past business owner, insurance agent, and photographer, he spent some of his retirement time at McDonald’s in Fairlea, WV, which he loved. While at McDonald’s, he was awarded Employee of the Year for the entire Eastern Region. Al was an avid flea marketer and enjoyed his many friends and acquaintances, especially from the Pence Springs Flea Market.
Survived to treasure his memory are his wife, Joan Whitaker of Lewisburg, WV; sons, Al Whitaker (Sandra) of Beckley, with whom he made his home, and Steve Whitaker (Jessica) of Aiken, SC; daughters, Susan Whitaker of Pence Springs, WV, and Beverly Palmer of Alderson, WV; grandchildren, Colby Whitaker of Tennessee, Christian Whitaker of Georgia, Madeline Whitaker of South Carolina, and Lawrence Christian of Beckley; great-grandchild, Caden Christian of Beckley; and sisters, Virginia Withrow (Jerry) of Windsor, SC, Margarette Page (Bruce) of Aiken, and Madeline Weese (Elgee) of Utah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Whitaker; and sons, Keith and Rick Bennett.
There will be no service.
Friends may visit with the family from 11 AM-1 PM at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel in Rainelle, WV, on Friday, September 8, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Ronald McDonald House or Bower Hospice House.
Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
