Alvin Jonathan “A.J.” Vance Jr., 60, of Neola, WV, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
He was born February 2, 1957, in Covington, VA, a son of the late Alvin Jonathan Vance Sr. and Allie Sue Wade Vance.
He was a member of May Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a Mason, Shriner, and a member of the Farm Bureau. A.J. graduated from Greenbrier East High School with the Class of 1975. He was a retired vocational-agricultural instructor, having taught at Lewisburg Junior High School in Lewisburg, WV, and then to Greenbrier East High School. He was also a Future Farmers of America advisor, having touched the lives of many young, successful adults.
He is survived by his brother, Jeff Vance and wife, Michelle, of Neola; nieces, Leah Vance and Ashley Vance; nephew, Andrew Vance; grandniece, Allie Vance; and first cousins, Deb Tucker and husband, Harry, and Chris Vance and wife, Vickie, all of Covington.
Per A.J.’s request, he is being cremated.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 7, 2017, at 2 PM at the Alvon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Buck Caldwell officiating. Following this service, there will be a celebration of life and sharing of memories luncheon.
The family invites relatives and friends for a visitation at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg on Saturday, May 6, from 6-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the GEHS FFA Scholarship Fund, c/o Beth Massey, 273 Spartan Lane, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
