Joseph William “Bill” Stone, 98, of Ronceverte, WV, passed away Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, surrounded by his family.
He was the son of Charles Emmit Stone and Mary Elizabeth O’Brien Stone.
Bill was a World War II combat veteran, and was a member of The Ronceverte Presbyterian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Odd Fellows, and a past member of the Lions Club.
He was a painter by trade. His love of life was music. He was featured on radio stations, TV, fairs, festivals, and many other local events. He sang for The Men of Greenbrier Barber Shop Chorus and in the choir at The Ronceverte Presbyterian Church. He was a great outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, but particularly grouse hunting.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ronelda Beitz Stone, along with 11 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Connie Rutherford Stone; his children, Sandra Walton and husband, Eddie, Sonja Stone, William “Bill” Dean Stone and wife, Gail, and Rosaletta Hudson and husband, Dee Jay; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He will be especially missed by his grandson, Brandon.
Funeral services are slated for Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 12 PM at The Ronceverte Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stephen Baldwin officiating. Burial with full military rights will follow in Riverview Cemetery at Ronceverte.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
