William Arthur Burns, 86, of Elizabeth, WV, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, WV.
Bill was born September 23, 1929, at Fort Spring, WV, a son of Robert A. and Dollie R. Carter Burns.
He had served from 1950 to 1953 in the United States Army, 11th Airborne Division, during the Korean War. He retired from the West Virginia State Police, where he served from 1955 to 1977. He then served as chief deputy with the Wood County Sheriff’s Department for two years and then worked as security at American Cyanamid until 1992. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying fishing, hunting, and camping. He is survived by his wife, Sharon A. Hill Burns; two daughters, Sue Burns of Parkersburg and Cynthia Parmiter (Larry) of Belpre; one son, William Burns of Vienna, WV; one stepdaughter, Susette Woodyard (Mike) of Parkersburg; one stepson, Steven Parsons (Jessica) of Vienna; three grandchildren, Will Burns, Dalton Burns, and Ashlyn Parmiter; and four step-grandchildren, Kylie Kellison, Morgan and Lauren Parsons, and Morgan Roberson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Bazzera, Margaret Ball, and infant, Marjorie.
The family is honoring Bill’s request to have no visitation or service.
