Bernard B. Hamrick, 78, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016, at his residence in Lewisburg, WV.
He was born April 8, 1938, at Marlinton, WV, a son of Charles Page and Nelie Florence Chestnut Hamrick.
Mr. Hamrick earned a B.S. from Concord College and his master’s from Florida Atlantic University. Bernie was a retired teacher and coached basketball and golf at Miramar High School in Hollywood, FL. The gymnasium at Miramar High was named in his honor.
He was of the Presbyterian faith, was a member of the Lewisburg Elks Club, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Jerry Shanklin, Catherine Spurlock, and Marilyn Bennett; and brothers, Page Hamrick Jr. and Virle Hamrick.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Gale Russell Hamrick; daughter, Lynn Gayle VanIderstyne (Richard); a grandson, Daniel B. Smading; sister, Virginia Dent; a brother, Frank Hamrick; and many nieces and nephews that he was very close to and made them call him “Uncle Bernie.”
Services will be conducted at 11 AM on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg with the Rev. Cameron Harkness officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
