Tasso Siler Butler Sr. of Sarton and Lindside, WV, passed away Friday, January 15, 2016, at The Seasons Assisted Living Center in Lewisburg, WV, where he was cared for by many for whom he cared so much.
He was born April 6, 1923, in Sampson County, NC, a son of Bertis Camel and Cornelia Crumpler Butler.
He served in the Army during World War II and retired after 46 years in grocery store management.
He attended Lindside United Methodist Church and was grateful for the longtime assistance of Chuck Weikle and for his adoption by the families of Dale Bradley and Nedra Lawson, children of his departed friend, Genevieve Stafford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, William “Bill” John Butler; and six siblings, Burtis “Bud” Butler, Mattie Bell Copeland, Versie Dudd, John Butler, Euphemia Natolie, and Charles Butler.
He is survived by the mother of his six children and former wife of 43 years, Donna Jean Butler; five children, Bonnie Butler Lay, Tasso Butler Jr., April Butler, Harold Butler, and Cris Butler; one sister, Iris Butler; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 22, 2016, at 5 PM at Groves Funeral Home in Union, WV, with Pastor Rodney Lawson officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:30 PM until time of the service at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 23, at Orchard Cemetery at Ballard, WV.
