Melvin Ray Shelton, 93, of Alderson, WV, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Greenbrier Manor Nursing Home in Fairlea, WV.
Melvin was born November 24, 1922, at Alderson and was the last surviving child of Willie Grant and Margaret Mitchell Shelton.
Mr. Shelton was a World War II Army veteran, was a member of Pence Springs Community Church in Pence Springs, WV, and was a retired mechanic for Valley Ford in Alderson. He was formerly employed by Gene Byard Ford, Roger Dean Ford, and Bert Wolfe Ford in Charleston, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Thelma Epperly and Ruth Spruill; and brothers, Forrest, Fred, Howard, and Ralph Shelton.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Coiner Shelton; daughter, Melissa Margaret Shelton Scott of Winchester, VA; son, John William Shelton and wife, Amy, of Green Bank, WV; and special granddaughter, Ella Scott of Winchester.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 18, 2016, at the Pence Springs Community Church with Pastors Roger Persinger and Sam Groves officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Pence Springs Community Haven of Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 PM until time of the service on Monday at the church.
