Mary “Mugs” Porterfield, 91, of Ronceverte, WV, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte after a short illness.
Mugs was born May 17, 1923, at Ronceverte, the daughter of the late Jerd and Nettie Helmintoller.
She was a homemaker and loved attending Zion’s Light Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred “Buzz” Porterfield; sisters, Ina Morgan and Edna Fullen; and brothers, Luther Helmintoller and Leroy Helmintoller.
Survivors include her children, Twila Norman (Tom) of Ronceverte, Vinnie Blake (Gary) of Roanoke, VA, and Freddie Porterfield (Teena) of Ronceverte; sister, Margary Henkle Henry of Portsmouth, VA; seven grandchildren, Barry Norman (Donna), Chad Norman (Diana), Jeff Blake (Tina), Nannette Robinson (Greg), Jennifer St. Clair (Jeremiah), Dale Porterfield, and Amy Porterfield; two step-grandchildren, Susan Morrison (Jeff), and Stephanie Hamilton (John); 11 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Porterfield; special friend, Rita Dowdy; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 30, 2014, at 2 PM at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte with the Rev. Gary Baker officiating. Burial followed in the Greenbrier Regular Baptist Church Cemetery.
Friends called from 12-2 PM at the funeral home on Sunday.
Pallbearers were Barry Norman, Chad Norman, Jeff Blake, Dale Porterfield, Matthew Blake, Josh Norman, and Tanner Norman.
