MCCLUNG
Deborah Kay Price McClung, age 70, of Sinks Grove, WV, passed away on Wednesday, December 30th, 2020 at the Peyton Hospice House, in Lewisburg, WV after a short but brave battle with breast cancer.
“Debbie,” as friends and family knew her, was the daughter of Marie Price and the late Denzil Price, of Sinks Grove, WV.
Born September 1st, 1950 in Ronceverte, WV, Debbie spent her childhood in Monroe and Kanawha County, WV. She was a 1968 graduate of Union High School in Union, WV and went on to study art at the former Greenbrier Women’s College, Concord University, and West Virginia University.
She used this education to become an award-winning artist and photographer, as well as serve many businesses in the community as an ad designer for The Mountain Messenger newspaper for several decades. Debbie always helped people in need and after retirement, was a devoted caregiver to her mother at home and enjoyed spending time with her grandson.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed history, archaeology, and learning about various cultures and places around the world. She enjoyed traveling, and her favorite places to visit included Williamsburg, VA and the beach.
She also loved gardening, winning numerous awards for her violets over the years, and having a fondness for the irises she grew around her home.
Debbie always loved animals, breeding and raising Himalayan cats in the ‘80s and ‘90s. She always had multiple pets that she cared for dearly.
She is survived by her mother, Marie Price of Sinks Grove, WV; her sister, Marsha Cray and companion, Jim Canfield of Lewisburg, WV; husband of 40 years, Lee McClung of Sinks Grove, WV; her daughter, Jennifer Ridgeway and husband, Anthony of Union, WV; her grandson, Drew Ridgeway of Union, WV; two nephews, Philip Cray and fiancé, Susan Weinfurtner-Blair of Ashland, KY and Luke Canfield of Charleston, WV.
She is preceded in death by her father and several aunts and uncles.
Debbie was of the Christian faith. Her final wishes were to be cremated and have her ashes spread on the farm where her pets were buried. Family will meet at a later date to carry out her wishes.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in memory of Debbie be made to the Monroe County Animal League at PO Box 343, Union, WV 24983.
