West Virginia has now surpassed 40,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic. There were 13,704 laboratory tests performed on Saturday, November 21, identifying 880 new cases. This brings the state’s total number of active cases to 13,340. The daily positivity-rate is 5.26%, and the cumulative positivity-rate has climbed to 3.48%.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports that four more residents have succumbed to complications stemming from COVID-19. Among those confirmed deceased are three men from Mineral County; ages 72, 80 and 91, as well as a 60-year old Summers County woman.
The total number of deaths in West Virginia attributed to the coronavirus is now 662.
At present, 433 West Virginians are hospitalized with COVID-19, 133 of whom are being cared for in the ICU, and 59 of those infected are being treated with ventilators. According to the DHHR, 26,476 individuals have since recovered.
