RICHWOOD (WVDN) – Greenbrier West opened the ladies’ basketball season with a resounding 59-30 win at sectional foe Richwood Tuesday night. Freshman Brilee Redden burst on the scene with a double-double for the victorious Cavaliers. Senior Meagan Poticher controlled the boards for West, pulling down double-digit rebounds.
Redden, in her first career varsity game, was thrust into action due to a preseason injury to senior Raelyn Palmer. Little did she know she would be counted on even further, when senior point guard Ava Barclay was also ruled out due to illness before the tipoff. Redden thrived in her newfound role, pouring in 21 points with 11 steals and 5 assists.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a 40-18 halftime lead and never looked back.
Poticher just missed a double-double of her own, scoring 9 and pulling down 15 rebounds. Abigail Thomas chipped in with 10 points. Maddie Fields had 7 for the Cavaliers, and last year’s leading scorer Preslee Treadway had 7.
Baylee Jarrett was the leading scorer for the Lumberjacks with 7, followed by Addison Dudley and Chole Cox who each had 6.
Greenbrier West (1-0) travels to Covington on Saturday. Richwood (0-2) travels to Mount View on Friday night.
