SUMMERSVILLE- On Wednesday, April 24, the Greenbrier West Lady Cavaliers jumped out to a quick lead in the first innings and then erupted for six runs in the fifth that put the game away for good in their impressive 10-1 victory over the Nicholas County Lady Grizzlies.

West got two runs on the board in the first inning on a Nicholas error after a Maddie Fields bunt, then Brilee Redden scored on a wild pitch a couple hitters later.

Redden struck again in the third frame when she lined a triple to center field. That brought Brooke Patterson around to score her second run of the night and at that point, the Cavs led 3-0. Kyndall Taylor then had an RBI groundout in the fourth for a 4-0 West lead.

Floodgates–open.

After Taylor pitched out of a mini jam in the fourth where the Grizzlies put a run on the board, the Cavalier offense came back to the plate and capitalized in a big way. Patterson walked and Fields got on base on an error. Preslee Treadway followed with an RBI single, Julia Herndon singled, and then Brooklyn Adkins hit a beautiful 2-run double to left that scored Treadway and Herndon. Two batters later, Adkins scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring in the inning. West led 10-1 after five.

The lead was more than enough for Taylor, who pitched a great game on the mound. She threw five innings and allowed five hits. She did not give up an earned run and had two strikeouts. She also had an RBI at the plate.

Redden went 2-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs and Adkins had the exact same stat line but instead of a triple she had a double. Adkins also hit a home run in the JV game. Patterson got a hit in two at-bats and led the team with three runs scored.

Greenbrier West (15-7) will have their senior night on Wednesday, April 25 against Pikeview and will honor Hannah Sweet and Herndon.
