CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (WVDN) – The Shenandoah Ballet, directed by Missy Belcher Floyd, returns to delight the entire family with “The Nutcracker.”
“The Nutcracker,” appearing on The Historic Masonic Theatre’s stage, is available for two performances at the theater. The first performance is Saturday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m., and the second is Sunday, Dec. 11 for a 3 p.m. matinee.
One of the most popular performances of past seasons, the ballet is based on the E.T.A. Hoffman tale, “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice.” Although the performance seen on stage today differs in detail from the original story, the basic plot remains the same. Clara dreams of her beloved Nutcracker winning the battle against the Mouse King, journeys through the land of the Snow Queen and her King and arrives in the Land of Sweets and the Sugar Plum Fairy.
The ballet, a Christmas classic, is set to the timeless Tchaikovsky score and was first performed in 1892 by the Mariinsky Theatre, home to the Kirov Ballet.
Tickets for “The Nutcracker” may be purchased at www.historicmasonictheatre.com or may be purchased by calling the theater box office at 540-862-5655.
