Bootleggers Union
One of the strongest and most perfect organizations now operating in this section is the “bootleggers union” says the Fayette Tribune. The objects of the society are to protect those engaged in illicit traffic and to keep up the supply. It is said that members of this organization in Fayette are required to take a secret oath signed and sealed with their own blood.
Potent Hair Tonic
C. W. Martin, of Rainelle, was recently found possessed of three pints of “hair tonic.” He was arrested and taken to Lewisburg for trail. The justice held the hair tonic was a beverage and fined Martin $300 and sentenced him to two months in jail. He appealed the case.
Morgantown vs. Pittsburgh
For nineteen years, the football team of West Virginia University has gone down in defeat before the football team of the University of Pittsburgh. On last Saturday, the West Virginia boys won a victory. Monday was proclaimed a holiday at the West Virginia University and a day of celebration.

Bingo Game Illegal
Attorney General Ira J. Partlow declared in an opinion Friday that bingo games are illegal, and that religious charitable and benevolent organizations are subject to criminal prosecution for conducting them.
Police Install Phones
The Lewisburg police department now have three phones on main street for their exclusive use. When the police receive a telephone call all three phones ring and the one that the policeman is closest to he answers. By this system you will be helped to contact the policeman when you need him. For the police all 457.
Drillers Tap Into Gas
The test well for oil being drilled on the C. P. Skaggs farm near Wolf Creek is now down to an approximate depth of one thousand feet. The workmen who live at the well have made themselves quite comfortable. They have tapped the main gas line and have their houses and trailers equipped with gas for lights and fuel.

Search Continues
Searchers combed the rugged mountain wilderness along the Gulf of Alaska today for a twin-engine plane carrying Democratic House Majority Leader Hale Boggs and three others which disappeared in a rainstorm late Monday.
Rockefeller Mobbed
Mobbed by admirers at Kanawha Airport, Jay Rockefeller reaches across the crowd at a Rockefeller-Kennedy rally. Over 2,000 people crowded around a platform to hear Rockefeller, Senator Ted Kennedy, Senator Jennings Randolph, and Congressman john Slack at the Charleston stop.

Fitness Center Opens
Fitness Forum opens at 200 Washington Street in Lewisburg. The health club has five trainers on staff and offers valet parking, courtesy towels, and childcare.
Clingman Honored
As part of the celebration of National Business Women’s Week, the Lewisburg Business and Professional Women’s Club would like to recognize Gwen Clingman for her significant accomplishments as a businesswoman. Clingman owns and operates Clingman’s Meat Market in Lewisburg. She purchased the market 53 years ago. Today, Clingman’s Market is best known for its breakfast and lunch service, as well as a thriving catering service.
