NEW CONCORD, Oh. (WVDN) – Former Greenbrier East pitcher Jake Roshau recently committed and signed to play baseball for the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies.
Muskingum is a private college in New Concord, Oh., and their baseball program will have a new coach this season, Jake Krupar, who was hired in July. They finished 15-23 last year.
Roshau, who went 6-3 with a 3.13 ERA his senior season at East, has not met the new head man in person, but has had quality phone conversations with him leading to his commitment.
“I have had conversations with Coach Krupar but given that he was recently hired as head coach, I haven’t talked to him in person yet. Our phone conversation was our initial meeting and getting to know each other,” Roshau said.
There are many reasons Roshau decided on Muskingum, but a couple really stuck out to the lefty.
“I decided on Muskingum because the environment felt like home and when I visited, the coaches and players I talked to made me feel welcome and wanted. I loved the campus and location of the school. They also can get me involved in things like internships and work experience I will need for the future,” Roshau explained.
East coach Cory Mann has helped coach several players to college rosters and Roshau said Mann is a big reason for the player he became over the last couple of years.
“Coach Mann was really important in my success,” Roshau said.
“Even though I didn’t like it at times, his workouts and off-season practices helped me develop my work ethic as a baseball player exponentially. He and the rest of the coaching staff helped me grow in baseball and as a man. He is one of the many reasons I am able to play at the next level,” he added.
Roshau also learned a lot under Mann and from Greenbrier East as a program as well. He credits all those factors for helping him along his destined path.
“I learned how to better solve problems and developed some organization techniques that will be very useful in college. I still tend to procrastinate sometimes but I have gotten better at it, and I attribute that to my high school experiences. I have also better learned how to communicate with my teachers and classmates,” Roshau stated.
Once the season starts and he hits the field, there are a few things Roshau hopes to accomplish.
“A goal for once I start the season is to earn outings on the mound this season to showcase my abilities and prove that I can be an asset to the team. Another goal is to have risen my velocity and control during the off-season,” Roshau explained.
Muskingum will open their season in March 2023. Roshau moved into his new school on Aug. 18.
