Greenbrier County Schools celebrates 2022 Employees of the Year

LEWISBURG (WVDN) – Greenbrier County Schools (GCS) each year selects exemplary employees for recognition through a candidate nomination, application, and interview process.

GCS has announced that four individuals have earned distinction as Greenbrier County Schools Employees of the Year for the 2022-23 school year.

Courtney Hudnall: County Teacher of the Year

Ronceverte Elementary physical education teacher Courtney Hudnall has been selected as the 2022-2023 Greenbrier County Teacher of the Year. Exciting, engaging, innovative, and creative are all ways to describe Hudnall as a teacher. School principal Andrea Stewart loves having Hudnall on her team because she motivates and engages students and encourages them to consistently perform and behave to the very best of their abilities.

Joy Williams: Elementary Teacher of the Year

White Sulphur Springs Elementary (WSSE) teacher Joy Williams has been selected as the 2022-2023 GCS Elementary Teacher of the Year. Williams strives to inspire a thirst for knowledge and learning, motivating students to drink up every bit of instruction she has for them. She is incredibly grateful for her students, school principal, and positive school culture at WSSE.

Amber Martin: Secondary Teacher of the Year

Amber Martin, a math teacher at Western Greenbrier Middle School (WGMS), has been selected as the 2022-2023 GCS Secondary Teacher of the Year. In addition to being an excellent math educator, Martin consistently steps forward as a dedicated school leader. One of Martin’s students explains why students love her so much, stating, “She is a super sweet teacher who accepts kids even if they make the day unpleasant sometimes.”

Service personnel Employees of the Year: Tracy Walkup and Jerry Baker

Tracy Walkup, a school custodian at Western Greenbrier Middle School, and Jerry Baker, a school custodian at Smoot Elementary, have been selected as 2022-2023 GCS Co-School Service Employees of the Year. GCS is pleased to honor Tracy and Jerry for their dedication to and compassion for students, extreme pride in their work, and willingness to consistently go above and beyond, offering their personal and professional best to our school system.

School-level Teacher of the Year nominees

Also earning the distinction as School-level Teachers of the Year were Abigail Bryant, Alderson Elementary; Stephanie Blankenship, Crichton Elementary; Karla Workman, Frankford Elementary; Lisa Crookshanks, Rainelle Elementary; Lynn Davis, Rupert Elementary; Katie Allen, Greenbrier West High; Melanie O’Brien, Eastern Greenbrier Middle; and Brian Baker, Greenbrier East High.
