LEWISBURG (WVDN) -It was a beautiful evening for baseball at Spartan Yards and the game was even better than the sunny skies.
A walk-off double led the Greenbrier East Spartans past the Princeton Tigers 5-4 on Tuesday, Mar. 22. East trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Ashton Cochran doubled on a 2-2 count and scored Isiah Brooks and Darris Boswell to seal the win.
The Spartans had defeated Princeton 4-0 last week in a scrimmage game.
Greenbrier East opened up the scoring in the first inning when Boswell scored on a passed ball.
Princeton tied the game at 1-all in the second frame after Brock Halsey ripped an RBI triple.
In the bottom of the fourth inning with Greenbrier East down 3-2, they tied things up at 3-all when Ian Cline drew a bases-loaded walk that scored one run.
Boswell earned the victory on the hill for the Spartans. The right-hander allowed two hits and one run over 3.2 innings. He struck out six and did not walk anyone. Cochran threw 1.1 innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Lucas Monaghan took the loss for Princeton. He surrendered two runs on one hit over 3.1 innings. Other than his failure to control the strike zone consistently, he pitched well as evidenced by his eight strikeouts.

Gavin Bennett started on the mound for East. The righty lasted two innings, allowed three hits and one run and struck out one Tiger.
