LEWISBURG (WVDN) – Lilly Carola threw a shutout to lead the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans past the Princeton Tigers 8-0 on Friday, Mar. 18 in the Spartans 2022 home opener.
The Spartans got off to a quick start and kept their foot on the gas throughout the game.
East (1-1) got on the board in the first inning when Aubrey Glover, who singled to lead off the inning and Riley Norman both stole home. Black then scored when Ella Asbury walked, and the Spartans jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.
The score went to 4-0 in the bottom of the third when Gracie Gumm roped a double that scored Taylor Boswell. Two batters later, Alaina McClary singled Gumm home and East had a commanding 5-0 advantage.
Black added a line drive home run to center field on an 0-2 pitch in the fourth frame. That made the score 6-0 at that point.
The final runs were driven in by McClary when she hit a 2-run double to left field.
That was all Carola needed.

Skylur Rice started the game for the Tigers. She lasted just one-third of an inning, allowing three runs on one hit.
East racked up seven hits on the day. Mcclary and Gumm each managed two apiece. The Spartans were sure handed in the field and did not commit an error.
East stole seven bases in the game with Norman leading the way with three of those.

East returns to the diamond this Monday, Mar. 21 and will take on the Wyoming East Lady Warriors.
